It's been at least 10 years since we (mostly Jane) refinished the cabinet interiors on
Eolian. And surprising tho it may be, in ten years' time the cabinets have gotten pretty dirty - even this small cabinet above the refrigerator, which we have used exclusively for storing spices.
Cleaning is useful, but there is nothing like applying a coat of paint. This small space took only a few minutes, and the result is very gratifying - it looks wonderful.
So this has inspired me. It is time to re-do the cabinet interiors, again.

What kind of paint do you use for cabinets? Also, what other paints do you use for the interior?

ReplyDeleteThat is Interlux Brightsides, a single-part urethane enamel. I really like Interlux's products. But unfortunately, they have left me in the lurch when it comes to varnish.
Eolian's interior is a mix of teak and fiberglass gelcoat. The teak is all finished with a single coat of Minwax Polyshades varnish. I used this because the original "hand rubbed" stain/oil finish was dried out, dirty, and failing most everywhere. Sanding it left some places where it was removed and some where it stubbornly persisted. By applying a coat of the colored varnish, the sanded-thru places absorbed the varnish while the places that retained finish did not. The result was completely even and looked as tho I had taken everything down to bare wood! Finally, I topped with a couple of coats of Interlux's interior satin (#60).
